FILE UNDER: best existential fight songs

modern world (wolf parade)

i’m not in love with the modern world
i’m not in love with the modern world
it was a torch driving the savages back to the trees

modern world has more ways
and i don’t mention it since it’s changed
while the people go out and the people come home again

it’s gotta last to build up your eyes
and a lifetime of red skies
and from my bed saying your haunted hissing in my bed

modern world don’t ask why
cause modern world will build things high
now they house canyons filled with life

modern world I’m not pleased to meet you
you just bring me down
modern world I’m not pleased to meet you
you just bring me down
modern world I’m not pleased to meet you
you just bring me down
modern world I’m not pleased to meet you
you just bring me down

although "apologies..." came out a while back -way back in 2005, modern world still has the ability to send me into ecstatic fits of broad smiled air guitar-air drum-table piano-fist pumping-violent head shaking. it is also probably one of the best songs i've ever heard performed live. (the wiltern. summer 2006. beautiful velma from scooby doo sat behind me with her hipster dickhead boyfriend. i had to get up out of my seat and spaz out in the aisle. and the boys from wolf parade were showering the audience with light and the chugging stomp kept rising with the howling of the band and the audience and there was no way to avoid really just FEELING it. it was revival rally type emotion.

they're smart to not give it away...it's dangerous stuff knock-yr-block-off type stuff. but i've posted a couple other jabs that they are kind enough to share off their website. bob and weave.
